Video transcript

My name is Yongama Dolo, and I hail from Acacia, Philippi East. Life here has always presented its set of challenges. Growing up in a single-parent household of three with my mother, who has faced unemployment for the last three years, has shaped much of my perspective and resilience.

I was fortunate to sign up for a program called “Shadows,” which focuses on training individuals for work in contact centers. This opportunity came at a crucial time, just three months after completing my high school education, a period filled with uncertainty and a lack of direction. However, the experience at Shadows wasn’t just about learning new skills; it was a revelation. It made me realize the potential of setting up a call center right here in my community.

The costs of transportation are exorbitant, and in an area like Acacia, affordability is key to daily survival. Establishing a call center nearby could significantly change many lives, not just by creating job opportunities but also by making these jobs accessible to those who need them the most. This vision isn’t just about employment; it’s about creating a sustainable model of growth and development for the community.

Joining Sigma was a transformative step. It provided me with a different lens to view my future—one where I can actively contribute to and shape the economic landscape of my hometown. With every challenge comes an opportunity, and I am determined to leverage this chance not just to better my own life, but to uplift others along the way.
